Jeff SOAR (Students Organized Against Rape)

Membership Eligibility: All Members of the Jefferson Community

Membership Dues or Fees: None

Jeff SOAR (Students Organized Against Rape) works to increase awareness and advocacy around issues of sexual violence through trainings, forums, guest speakers, and outreach to the campus and greater community.  Areas of discussion include caring for patients following sexual assault, immediate and follow up treatment, short- and long-term consequences of sexual and intimate partner violence, and techniques to reduce risk and identify violence. Jeff SOAR commits itself to empowering people and recognizes that women and members of the LGBT community experience a disproportionate share of sexual assault and intimate partner violence.  In support of Eve Ensler’s V-Day campaign to end violence against girls and women, Jeff SOAR holds a production of The Vagina Monologues and donates all proceeds to WOAR (Women Organized Against Rape), a rape crisis center in Philadelphia.

All Thomas Jefferson University students are eligible for membership.  Members are responsible for contributing to the planning and execution of Jeff SOAR events on campus throughout the year and during Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April.  Members can choose to perform in or otherwise facilitate the annual production of The Vagina Monologues.
