Jeff Reads

Membership Eligibility: All Jefferson Students

Membership Dues or Fees: None

JeffReads is a program that helps make early literacy a part of pediatric primary care. JeffReads volunteers read to children as they wait for their appointments at the Nemours Pediatric Clinic. They introduce parents to the pleasures and techniques of looking at books with children of different ages. The organization gives books to children to encourage reading in the home, and to get books into the hands of those who may have little or no access to them. JeffReads volunteers also read to children in the inpatient pediatric unit at Jefferson University Hospital and to babies in the Intensive Care Nursery.  Additional activities include lunchtime talks about literacy and reading parties at the pediatric clinic. JeffReads has been in existence for 19 years. There are no dues or fees.
