Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University

Summer Research Program
Overview

The Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC) Student Summer Research Program is a 7 to 10 week program that provides Thomas Jefferson University medical students with the opportunity to become involved in basic science, translational, clinical, or population health research during the summer following their first year in medical school. For details, see Programs.

Program components include a seminar series, mentored research, an oral presentation, and a written abstract (for details, see Programs / Components and Requirements). The research work should be conducted on campus or at affiliated sites, under the mentorship of a Thomas Jefferson University faculty member.

The deadline for the online application is in the beginning of January of the first year in medical school. At the time of the application, each student must:

  • be a first-year medical student at Jefferson's Sidney Kimmel Medical College;
  • be in good academic standing; and
  • have identified a field or program that he/she is interested in.

Each applicant is strongly encouraged to discuss his/her interests with the relevant departmental research contact and/or with potential summer advisors. For details, see Programs and Applying.

Federal Work Study and other funds may be available to support a student’s summer research. For details, see Financial Support.
