On September 10, 2015, the Jefferson College of Pharmacy (JCP) received the Annual Board of Directors Award from the Associated Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ASB) for services provided to ASB clients by JCP Doctor of Pharmacy Students and Faculty. For more than 8 years, JCP student pharmacists enrolled in the Healthcare Related Service Learning course provide weekly presentations to ASB clients on topics such as diabetes management, immunizations, medication adherence, and nutrition. Dr. Angela Nace, Field Coordinator of JCP Experiential Education Services oversees the program and accepted the award from ASB Board Member Ronald E. Bowlan. Through this program, JCP student pharmacists apply skills they have learned in the classroom and gain valuable experience regarding how to effectively communicate with individuals with special needs. In her letter notifying JCP of this prestigious award, ASB President and CEO, Patricia C. Johnson stated that “your organization has been instrumental in achieving our mission to promote independence and to serve as a voice and advocate for the rights of all people who are blind or visually impaired.”
ASB is an organization committed to helping blind and visually impaired individuals to become independent, productive members of society.
