Awards & Distinctions
On September 27 at the 2014 Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association's annual Conference in Pittsburgh, Pa., Dr. Nick Leon, assistant professor in the Jefferson College of Pharmacy, received the prestigious Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award. In addition, Jefferson College of Pharmacy fourth year student Joseph Fulginiti, was presented with the PPA George H. Searight Community Service Award. This award is presented to an individual (pharmacist or student pharmacist) who has shown outstanding devotion and service to PPA and outstanding community service, which has enhanced the image of the profession of pharmacy within his/her community.
On the same day, Jefferson College of Pharmacy students Walid Hammoud, Jonathan Valenzano, Jeremiah Warner and Marcell Vasquez presented in the PPA's “Achieving Independence” competition designed to foster the budding entrepreneurial spirit among pharmacy students to one day own their own pharmacy. Jefferson College of Pharmacy Dean Rebecca Finley stated, “Although they did not win the competition, they did a fabulous presentation and poster communicating their plans for an innovative new business concept.”
In Philadelphia, also on September 27, the University of the Sciences bestowed the annual Alumni Award to another JCP faculty member, Dr. Gerald Meyer, associate professor of Pharmacy Practice. This award is given to an alumnus who has been distinguished by "having contributed in outstanding fashion to the profession, to science and/or to mankind."
