Christine Ann Arenson, MD, Named Alumni Professor and Chair of Family and Community Medicine at Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA — The Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University named Christine Ann Arenson, MD, the Alumni Professor and Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine. In this role, Dr. Arenson will oversee more than 50 employed faculty members and guide the department’s research, education and clinical goals.

DePalma Dean of the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. “Dr. Arenson’s leadership has advanced Jefferson’s reputation as a trailblazer in interprofessional education and health services research, and her mentorship has developed the careers of many colleagues, junior faculty and students.”
Dr. Arenson received her undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware before studying medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College (formerly Jefferson Medical College). She remained at Jefferson for her internship, residency and fellowship in geriatric medicine before joining the faculty. Dr. Arenson held numerous leadership roles throughout her career including Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine, Administrative Director of Palliative Care Consultation Service at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Co-Director of the Jefferson Senior Adult Oncology Program in the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center.
Dr. Arenson serves on the boards of directors of the Delaware Valley ACO and the JeffCare Alliance Clinically Integrated Network. She is also the founding co-director of the Jefferson Center for Inter-Professional Education, and is internationally known for her work in this area. Dr. Arenson is a member of professional and scientific societies including the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Geriatric Society and the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative. Her publication and research interests include collaborative health education, geriatric medicine and primary care transformation. She is a frequently invited speaker on these topics.
