Clinical & Research Interests

Dr. Doria has personally performed more than 500 organ transplants including 350 liver transplants, and authored over 220 publications.

Dr. Doria is an expert in solid abdominal organ transplantation as well as oncologic surgery for cancer of the liver and bile duct. Dr. Doria pioneered two surgical techniques. He was the first to describe the bloodless liver resection; an operation where the removal of liver cancer is performed without the use of blood.

He is also only one of a handful of surgeons in the US to perform robotic assisted liver resection using the DaVinci Technology.This allows Dr. Doria to remove liver cancer through a series of 9 mm holes.

In addition, Dr. Doria is an immunologist with an interest in artificial organ development as well as in inhibitory pathways of liver cancer growth.

Dr. Doria specializes in the surgical treatment of:

  • Hepatocellular carcinoma
  • Colangiocarcinoma
  • Liver adenoma and hemangioma
  • Liver cyst
  • Liver metastasis from colorectal cancer and other liver metastasis
  • Bile duct injury
