Application Requirements


Jefferson College of Biomedical Sciences (JCBS) application, TJAPP, is managed through a central application service which collects all of the application materials.

The application deadline is December 1st. Applications received after this date will be reviewed on a space available basis.

The application fee is $60.00 and needs to be submitted by credit card (Visa or Mastercard only) upon submission of the application. The fee is non-refundable.

JCBS applicants are applying  to our PhD programs via our Flexible Targeted Entry Pathway.

In the course of the application you will be asked to identify specific PhD programs of interest.


Please submit a personal statement/essay describing your reasons for applying to Thomas Jefferson University and the Biomedical Sciences PhD program . Detail your research experience and areas of research that you are interested in currently and for future study.

Official Transcripts

Applicants are required to submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities they have attended. This includes any study-abroad programs or transfer credit not reflected on undergraduate transcripts with full course titles and final grades.

If your courses were completed outside of the United States, you must submit a course-by-course evaluation from World Education Services.

Letters of Reference, Three Letters Required

Letters of reference should be written by people who can comment from personal knowledge on the applicant's academic qualifications, preferably from individual faculty, research advisor or professional references.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test

The assigned institution code for Jefferson College of Biomedical Sciences is 2999.

Scores need to be received from ETS. Expired or unofficial scores will not be accepted.

English Language Proficiency

If your native language is not English, or you received your baccalaureate degree from an institution where English is not the official language of instruction (comprehensive list of requirements by country), you must submit official scores from an accepted English proficiency exam such as TOEFL or IELTS (ETS Code: 2999).  TOEFL or IELTS scores are valid for two years; scores older than two years will not be considered.
