Jefferson Schools to
We are excited to announce that five of Thomas Jefferson University’s academic units are changing their names from Jefferson schools to Jefferson colleges. The new names for the schools will be:
- Jefferson College of Biomedical Sciences
- Jefferson College of Health Professions
- Jefferson College of Nursing
- Jefferson College of Pharmacy and
- Jefferson College of Population Health
Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University will retain its name.
Changing the schools to colleges elevates each academic entity within Thomas Jefferson University, and allows for growth of future centers, colleges and institutes. Thomas Jefferson University will remain the overall “parent” organization, with each college falling within this umbrella structure.
Equally important, the name change reaffirms our commitment to establishing Programs of Global Distinction and Forward-Thinking Education. The new structure allows for more flexibility in creating and expanding new, innovative and transformative health education programs and Colleges in areas such as healthcare cybersecurity and telemedicine. Jefferson’s scientific enterprise will also benefit from the new structure, as it creates opportunities for the development of potential research institutes that could span two or more colleges. It also recognizes that some of these new programs and Colleges will involve creative partnerships with other academic entities.
We continue to build on our rich history by reimagining the way we educate tomorrow’s healthcare leaders. In collaboration with some of the world’s most renowned physicians, researchers and faculty, Jefferson is setting the highest standards of healthcare education for its students.
