Hematology and Oncology Associates was
established in 1971 and specializes in hematology and medical oncology. Our mission is to provide
quality care to our patients in conjunction with the best technologies and medicines available to us.
Our practice of eight physicians, a certified nurse
practitioner, three physician assistants, an oncology nursing staff, lab technicians, and
support team provides care at our two locations. Our primary facility is located in Dunmore, Pennsylvania
with a fully certified laboratory, injection clinic, chemotherapy infusion wing, and clinical research
department. The physicians also see patients in our satellite office located on the Morgan Highway in Scranton,
Pennsylvania.
We continually strive to achieve the very best treatment for
your individual needs while providing compassionate care in the most comfortable environment possible.
Our physicians are actively involved with Clinical Research Trials and consider all patients for these trials.
Clinical Trials or Protocols are scientific studies that allow physicians to find new or better methods of treating
cancer patients. The Clinical Trials test many new drugs, approaches to different therapies, and surgeries in order
to gain more knowledge on side effects and what treatments work best; this puts them in a position to offer our
patients the most up-to-date treatments available.
Hematology and Oncology Associates participates in various
Clinical Trials and has received awards and commendations for the number of patients it has enrolled.
Our physicians are research oriented and remain dedicated to investigating new treatment modalities for
care of the cancer patient. They attend various conferences throughout the year to stay current with new drugs,
procedures, and therapies in an effort to continuously provide up-to-date services and care to our patients;
By doing so, our physicians are able to offer the benefit of local care to those who might otherwise
have to travel great distances from their home community in order to take advantage of the newest treatment
options available. Our doctors enroll about 60 patients in Clinical Trials each year. The trials are
sponsored by various pharmaceutical companies and cooperative groups such as the Eastern Cooperative Oncology
Group (ECOG) and the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project Cooperative Group (NSABP). Staff in
the Research Department consists of oncology certified nurses, a clinical research assistant, and a secretary
that are all dedicated to aiding the physicians in the treatment and patient care issues of our Clinical Trial
participants.
Hematology and Oncology Associates prides itself with knowing
that our patients and their families come first. Our staff is dedicated to making sure our patients are provided
with the absolute best care we can provide.
