In 1987 Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Chestnut Hill Hospital in Northwest Philadelphia joined forces in the fight against cancer. This partnership formed the Jefferson-Chestnut Hill Radiation Oncology Center, which conveniently brings the top cancer specialists and the latest in oncologic treatments and equipment from Jefferson to patients living in Northwest Philadelphia and eastern Montgomery County.
The Jefferson-Chestnut Hill Radiation Oncology Center is staffed by the experienced team of physicians from Jefferson's department of radiation oncology, along with physicists, technologists and nurses trained at Jefferson. In addition, the Center houses a six-megavolt linear accelerator which is used to treat most cancers, including those of the head, neck, breast, lung, prostate, colon and rectum.
