Kimmel Matching Program for Endowed Professorships

The Best and Brightest
For nearly two centuries, Jefferson has been world renowned for reimagining in health, health education and discovery. Endowed professorships enable Jefferson to recruit and retain the most creative, committed and influential minds in medicine.

The Highest Honor
Endowed professorships are held by the most distinguished and revered scholars, clinicians and scientists at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. While these chairs represent an array of disciplines, they have one thing in common: An endowed professorship is the ultimate recognition of faculty scholarship and excellence.

Give a lasting gift.
Endowments last forever. They recognize the legacy of those who generously give to create them. Endowed professorships may be named for the donor or in memory or honor of someone special, such as a relative, friend, physician or faculty member.

Now is the time. Maximize your impact.
There has never been a better time than now in Jefferson’s history to make a gift to create an endowed professorship. Thanks to a special matching opportunity, your investment will go further. There is a limited pool of matching funds, so now is the time to create your legacy.

How does an endowment work?
“Endowment” refers to assets that are invested for the long term to provide a permanent source of income for Jefferson. When a donor creates an endowed fund, the gift “buys shares” in Jefferson’s pooled endowment, which operates similarly to a mutual fund. Each year the Board of Trustees sets a payout rate, much like a dividend, for shares. Payout is the amount available to be spent annually for each fund’s designated purposes.

What are the terms of the Kimmel Match?

Recognizing the fundamental importance of medical education and of maximizing philanthropic opportunities, the Sidney Kimmel Foundation established the Kimmel Matching Program, which guarantees a match for all gifts to establish new endowed professorships at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Jefferson. Through June 30, 2017, endowed professorships will be matched at the 2:1 level, i.e., for every two dollars you give, the program will match one dollar as follows.
