Physicians Aid Association Supports JMC Students
The Physicians Aid Association of the Delaware Valley (PAA) recently made a $70,000 gift to support scholarships for Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University students with financial need. Eleven Sidney Kimmel Medical College students were awarded scholarships for the current academic year.
Scholarship support is essential as it allows the brightest students to attend JMC regardless of their financial situation. Since 2011, the PAA has awarded a total of $160,000 in scholarship funding to SKMC.
In addition to providing scholarships to area medical schools, the PAA, established in 1870, supports physicians and their families in need.
Jim Studdiford, MD, professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, has served on the board of the PAA for the past 10 years.
"Our medical students are extremely grateful to the PAA and Dr. Studdiford for making this scholarship opportunity possible for the past three years," said Fritz Ruccius, chief philanthropy officer, Office of Institutional Advancement.
