Do you guarantee that a host will be available for me?
Alumni Relations will try our best to find a host in the area you have requested, but we cannot guarantee that a host will be available.
Contacting busy physicians sometimes takes a bit of time so be patient with us in finding a host. The earlier a request is submitted, the more likely you will be matched with a host. We will do our best to match you with someone who is in the same specialty you are interviewing in, if possible and available.
If a host is not available, you will be notified.
Is my spouse or significant other able to stay with me?
Hosts may welcome spouses or partners. Please note on the registration form if you will be traveling with your spouse.
Can I stay with a host for more than one day?
Absolutely! Please let Alumni Relations know on the Student Registration Form how long you will need to stay with a host and any other special accommodations you may need. You may want to stay with a host for longer than a day to complete several interviews in a region or stay for a longer period of time to get better travel rates. We will work with our alumni volunteers to best suit your travel needs.
Who are the HOST volunteers?
All hosts are SKMC alumni who have agreed to participate in the HOST Program.
Where are hosts available?
There are Jefferson alumni throughout the country – so there are potentially hosts anywhere you have to travel. To find a host in the area where you are interviewing, please complete the request form or contact us at email@example.com.
What can I expect from the host?
Alumni hosts may provide accommodations, transportation, home cooked meals, guided tours of the area, and invaluable professional insight on the community and your prospective residency program. Alumni may welcome you to stay at their home for a couple days or they may only be available to meet for coffee. Every HOST program experience will be different and you will benefit every time you use the program.
How do I sign up to utilize the HOST Program?
Fill out the Student Request Form to let us know when and where you will be traveling. We ask that you let us know about your travels as soon as possible so we can have time to contact and find a host for you. Two weeks advance notice is appreciated, but we understand that interviews change frequently and we will try to accommodate requests that do not have the two week advance notice.
Do I contact the alumni host?
After you have completed the online Student Request Form, we will begin looking for an alumni host in the requested area. If a host is available and interested, we will then provide you with the alumnus' information. It is then up to you to promptly contact your host and share the details of your travel and interview plans and arrange your stay. We ask that you contact them as soon as we give you their information so plans can be confirmed.
How far in advance should I contact my host?
Contact your host as soon as we give you their information, regardless of how early you are matched with a host. PROMPT CONTACT IS VERY IMPORTANT! You should contact them once again when it gets closer to the date of your travel.
What do I do if my travel or interview plans change or get cancelled?
We understand that plans change – but it is very important to contact your host and Alumni Relations as soon as possible and let them know. If you need to reschedule for that location, we would be happy to work with the volunteer to see if the date change works or look for another alumni volunteer if the new date should not work.
Do I need to do anything after returning from using the HOST Program?
Yes, we ask that you send a thank you note to your alumni host. Please take a photo of you and your host to submit to Alumni Relations upon your return so that it can be put on the Jefferson alumni website to promote further host connections.
