Mitchell Machtay, M.D. is a graduate of Princeton University and The New York University School of Medicine. He completed his Radiation Oncology residency at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as Chief Resident. He was an attending physician in radiation oncology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from 1993 to 2003.   He was named associate professor and vice chairman of Radiation Oncology at Thomas Jefferson University in 2003, and was appointed an endowed faculty position as the first Walter Curran Jr. M.D. Associate Professor in 2004.
Dr. Machtay has received the Giulio D’Angio Award for Teaching Excellence in the Department of Radiation Oncology in July 1996, and the ARRO (Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology) “Teacher of the Year Award”for the Year 2000. He currently holds the position of deputy chair of Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG).
His areas of interest and expertise include head and neck cancer, lung cancer and tumors within or near the central nervous system, where highly conformal radiation techniques are particularly useful. He has published and presented extensively on a variety of clinical oncology topics.Back to Faculty Department
