Jorge E. Freire, M.D. is a Radiation Oncologist specializing in the treatment of eye
tumors in adults and children, in cooperation with the Oncology Service of Wills Eye
Hospital in Philadelphia, a well known center for referral of all kind of ocular and
orbital tumors. He also specializes in the treatment of brain tumors with the use of
Stereotactic Radiosurgery and GammaKnife at Wills Eye Hospital.
Dr. Freire is author and co-author of numerous publications and main author of several
book chapters. He has also conducted extensive research in the use of ionizing radiation
for the treatment of exudative "wet" macular degeneration, a condition that
causes blindness in the 50 years and older population.
Dr. Freire completed his residency training in Radiation Oncology in Canada, at McGill
University, University of Ottawa and University of Manitoba.
