| Preparing For Your Prostate
Implant
The evening before the simulation:
Drink one-half (approximately 5-oz.) bottle of magnesium citrate, a laxative that can
be purchased in any pharmacy without a prescription. A Fleets' TM
enema is also acceptable. It is unnecessary to use both an enema and magnesium citrate.
The morning of the simulation you should be on a liquid diet; there is no limit on
quantity.
Preparing for Your Pre-Admission Testing
You will come to the hospital for pre-admission testing 1-4 weeks before the implant.
During this visit you will have some tests done, including routine blood tests, a chest X-
ray, and an EKG. If you are under the care of a cardiologist, please bring a letter from
your physician that clears you for general anesthesia.
You will also meet with a nurse who will explain what will happen on the day of the
implant procedure and answer any questions you may have.
You will also meet with an anesthesiologist who will examine you and explain the type
of anesthesia you will receive for the implant. We prefer general anesthesia whenever
possible. If you are presently taking any medications, the anesthesiologist will tell you
which ones you can take on the morning of the implant.
Please do not take any aspirin/ibuprofen or similar products one week prior to implant.
If you take a blood-thinning medication, ask your physician for specific instructions.

register the morning of the implant.
